Problem StatementControlling sensitive information, whether classified or not, is one of the greatest security challenges that companies face today. However, this need is even more obvious for businesses whose core production is in the information arena. Some companies rely on public key infrastructure (PKI), virtual private networks (VPNs), or simple file encryption systems to lock down sensitive information. While these solutions offer perimeter control, they can't regulate access down to the single file and protect information assets against external or internal misuse. This has fuelled a recent shift in security focus from perimeter to end-to-end security realizing that the theft and unauthorized disclosure of proprietary information is by far the most serious cause of financial losses for organizations worldwide. The current trend is to acknowledge the reality that hostile or damaging activity does penetrate corporate networks regardless of the perimeter defenses and that it often (or mostly) originates within the firewalls. Furthermore, the mobility of the workforce is posing a new formidable security challenge to corporations, which are now witnessing a steady and systematic break-down of their conventional concept of corporate perimeter. New security concepts, such as "deperimeterisation", are currently being proposed as a way of redesigning the security perimeters at the boundaries between an organization's own ICT infrastructure/services and the open networks, individuals and other organizations with which it connects. Some of the key issues that must be resolved in a mobile enterprise are: - Protect and control Information Assets Publishing companies need to control access to their information resources and to secure the confidentiality and integrity of all the files and data. The corporation must be able to track the usage of each file and to limit the diffusion according to its internal policies. - Secure the mobile workforce The work force needs to gain access to the publishing resources and to send their reports in a secure way while on the road as much as when working from the main office locations. Securing the mobile access and remote communication can be a complex task when reporting from foreign and third-world countries, where even just carrying a PC can be a life-threatening practice. The e-Capsule™ Enterprise SuiteThe e-Capsule™ Suite of products allows publishing and research companies to produce and share information on a need-to-know basis and to control how recipients can use this information. A unique mark of all the e-Capsule™ client modules is the Zero-footprint feature, i.e. the ability to run the applications without the need to first perform any installation procedures on the PC. This assures that that access to or sending of sensitive information can be easily performed by authorized users, without requiring previous installation or complicated procedures. All data is stored on a centralized repository where it is classified and encrypted before upload. Information transfers to/from the corporation always occur over an encrypted_channel established and enforced by the e-Capsule™ application launched from the user's personal USB Access Token. Once uploaded to the centralized repository, the sensitive information can be shared and accessed by utilizing a set of secure view tools, whereby data is displayed but never downloaded and/or released in decrypted version. Non-repudiation and Action logging assures compliance to privacy regulations, provides a detailed audit trail to prove which information has been disclosed helping to establish a corporate culture for the secure access to sensitive information. Local encryption tools allow users to secure all their PC files and folders in distributed data containers, saved on any local or network attached storage devices. Users can send and receive secure and encrypted e-mails, as well as digitally sign e-mails and file attachments. The entire content of the user's mailbox and address book is stored in encrypted format and flexible certificate management features empower the users to easily control all their digital identities and to extend e-mail security beyond their office boundary. In summary, the e-Capsule™ Enterprise Suite will help your company:
